The first official look at the completed, rebuilt Team Fairhurst car complete with its new stunning colour scheme and paint job ahead of its race debut at Birmingham and Hednesford this weekend in Lee’s capable hands. Many thanks to Mike Ashcroft and Chris Johnson at Boundary Garage (Bury) Ltd who painted the car. Paint used was Standohyde (Standox water base) Ford Performance Blue courtesy of the Morelli Group with facilities and dry good courtesy of Boundary Garage (Bury) Ltd.

Signs as ever were left to the very capable hands of Brian (the brush) Evans who spent 3 days creating the masterpiece you see here.

(Selection of photos) followed by the rest below, thanks.

The car was totally rebuilt over the winter as previously mentioned, and below are a some more photos of the rebuild process along with a few details of the rebuild. This allowed Team Fairhurst to make some much needed or desired changes to the cars construction which will help the team on many levels during the season. These changes included moving the radiator forward in the engine bay around 3 inches which allowed a cowl to be fitted around the fan to aid with cooling the radiator / engine. The car’s front suspension set up is now a 4 link system instead of the usual FWJ set up that was previously used on the car, so it may take a little while for the team to get used to the new set up when it comes to fine tuning the cars set up. The inside cab panel has been moved in slightly to the roll cage to allow a bit more clearance room for the inside shock and spring. The aerofoil has a new mounting system with adjustable sliders so that wing no longer needs to removed and refitted for transportation purposes. Now it’s just a case of loosening a couple of bolts, lowering the wing and it will now fit in the transporter with it still attached to the car. The front end chassis work is less complicated than before which not only allows for a weight saving but also makes it easier for the team to work on the front axle if needed in the pits.

The chassis was primed with filler primer and then painted bright red at the Fairhurst Widnes workshop.

The car then went to Boundary Garage (Bury) Ltd where it was painted Ford Performance Blue by Chris Johnson

Back at Widnes, the new engine bay panels and bonnet are manufactured and the bonnet scoop fitted.

The new panels were sent back to Boundary for painting.

New painted nerf covers now in place.

Lower panels now fitted under nerf rails.

After having the engine fitted and all the other components fitted, Brian Evan came to Widnes to work his magic on the sign writing. The car then went to Keith Clements Auto Electrical Services in Clitheroe to be wired up. From there, the car went back to Boundary Garage to have a top coat of clear lacquer to seal in Brian’s sign writing.

Virtually finished and almost ready to race, the car leaves Boundary Garage.
